What is Autism? || What are Causes, Prevalence, Symptoms and Treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

According to Definition the Social Model of Disability

During my research on autism, there was a time when I started thinking of myself as an autistic person. Let me make one thing clear at the outset, this is not a disability. Rather, there is neurodevelopmental diversity. In front of which there are different levels. And some more things may be connected with it. Even after the passage of a century, its causes and treatment are not possible.

What can we do?

Talk about autism or autism spectrum disorder. So its symptoms can appear at any age from two to three years of age. These symptoms can be both mild and severe.

According to psychologists and working special educationists, some of the symptoms of autism are as follows:

  • Avoiding social relationships.
  • Aggressiveness in nature.
  • Do not respond to name calling.
  • Anxiety and fear all the time.
  • Very cruel or very soft hearted.
  • Difficulty paying attention.
  • Solitary and cornered.
  • Squinting while talking.
  • Repeating words and sentences over and over.
  • Getting upset over the slightest thing.
  • Difficulty explaining or expressing yourself
  • Hand Flapping
  • Doing the same thing over and over again
  • Not sitting still, jumping while sitting
  • Do not give eye contact while talking
  • Listen but do not respond
  • Excessive stubbornness, making noise, breaking things, harming, aggression
  • Being more shy than normal children
  • Difficulty understanding and expressing yourself
  • Talk about your own topic.

After ten years of field experience with MPhil Developmental Disabilities and 120 hours of continuous reading of deep and latest researches in the last twelve days, listening to interviews of autistic people from all over the world, I have given autism a different perspective. I have been able to see. I think the article will be a bit long but today I have to say everything that has been said, heard and written very little.
What is Autism? || What are Causes, Prevalence, Symptoms and Treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

The rate of autism has increased rapidly in recent years. In a round number, one in every hundred children has autism. In the same ratio, 1% of the whole world's 7.9 Billion Population, i.e. 80 million, is with autism. As far as Pakistan is concerned, 2.2 lakh people out of 22 Million people may be with autism. Pakistan Autism Society's press release issued on World Autism Day 2 April 2021 said that there are currently 4 lakh children with autism in Pakistan. We have the same autistic process of identification. In which the above described extreme symptoms of autism are found. And many people are unable to get their autistic children properly assessed due to lack of resources and awareness.

Who does the autistic assessment?

Usually Doctors or Psychologists? Both these third-party and third-party parents view autism largely in the medical model of disability. In the medical model, autism is a mental illness, a neurological or genetic disorder, a medical condition or a tragedy. Because the Neuro-logical development did not go well. So this child is not normal. The work would have started on normalizing it. It should be treated. First, this approach is adopted by parents, doctors and some psychologists. And the child would be drowned in the early years of treatment cycles.

I am an argumentative special educationist who rejects this medical model in the context of autism altogether. What do doctors do? Test etc.? And psychologists do assessments or some of them even take sessions with them? And what do special educationists do? With assessments around the world spending more time with these children than parents. An autistic child does not consider himself disabled. Nor does it actually happen. In the social model of disability, we special educationists do not consider autism to be a disease or a disability. That which should be treated. It can be cured or prevented.
Millions of billions of dollars are invested in autism research worldwide every year. When I researched autism funding, I came across something like this.

  • 40% of funds are being spent in this field, what are the genetic and biological or other causes? How can it be prevented? Even after a hundred years of research, this question remains the same.
  • 20% of the funds should be spent on research on what is the cure? How can we normalize autism?
  • 20 percent of the funding goes to years-long research exploring the problems and behaviors of Autism.
  • Only 7% of the funds go towards the welfare and support of autistic people.
  • Autistic people are 9 times more likely to commit suicide than the general population.
  • The average life of autism is 54 years worldwide, including in Pakistan, while the normal life span in Spain is 68 years. And in some countries even up to 80 years.

The world's priorities are wrong about autism. Canada, England, America, France, Germany When I spoke to Pakistani parents living in Dubai, they confirmed that there is nothing for these children here either. Whatever we do ourselves. It works only on the medical model. Sleeping pills are given in severe mental anxiety. Or we don't know what to do with our child in the rehabilitation center.

Autism is more common in males than females. One in ten autistic children may be girls and nine may be boys. Or one in sixteen could be a girl.

What is autism under the social model?

Autism is not a disability. This is a different pattern of neurological development. These children's habits of thinking, understanding, responding, behaving, communicating, communicating are different from the majority. And people with autism also have different preferences and symptoms in these areas.
Some people are introvert and extrovert even in the definition of normal people. You can find out your personality type by using the MBTI tool. I am an ENFP. This is my one personality code. I am an extrovert. I found out this code by getting my personality assessment done by paying a fee to a life coach. Do you also have a personality code? which dictates the specific ways in which we learn and live. Once the code is known, it becomes easier for us. What field are we made for? In which work you can get more and faster results by doing little work. What work will we not get tired of doing?
Majority of the people would remain engaged in their disliked work for the rest of their lives. And people do not achieve anything big in life.
You also know your personality code. And then go to work. Just don't raise your head for ten years. You have to work hard. And God willing, your name will live in this field for the next hundred years. The greater the effort, the greater the goal, the more credible the name.
After assessment of Autism. What should parents do now?
Accept that this child is different from your other children. It is difficult especially for a mother. But my sister, please don't get sad or shocked about this. Don't go down the wrong path of healing this child. This child will not be like other people for the rest of his life. It can lead a wonderful life in its own way. If you accept it for what it is and starts working on improving it.
Don't even hide it. Tell everyone proudly that your child is autistic. His likes and dislikes are more or less different. Educate the family and family members.

How to deal with it?

Some children are verbal and the majorities are non-verbal. Some children do not speak a single word for the rest of their lives. Sign language is learned. or speak certain words. Like egg, mother, father, any one word, that too when they want.
A detailed assessment done not by a single individual but by a whole team of professionals. And that assessment covers several days. She will determine what conditions are associated with autism. Because of which it was called spectrum. And not to treat it (there is no one in the world) but how to make a management and education plan.
The most severe condition associated with autism is blindness. It is the most difficult condition in the world if autism is severe.

  • Apart from learning disabilities,
  • Expressive language disorder
  • Receptive language disorder
  • Sensory processing issues
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder
  • ADHD
  • Hydrocephalus
  • Epilepsy
  • Schizophrenia
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Disrupted sleep
  • Gastrointestinal (GI) problems
  • Feeding issues
These children learn differently than normal children. They are first told about the basics. How to do your own personal work? Experts work for years on potential focus and speech. So there is a modest output. These children have one-to-one teaching. Even two children cannot study in the same place at the same time. Punjab Special Education Department does not accept these children for this reason. That the ratio of children in each category is already very high before the number of teachers.

In many of our schools, in the section with children with intellectual disabilities, a teacher sits quietly in a corner with ten or twenty children. He sat there for ten or twenty years. There will be no improvement. It requires individual attention and one-to-one teaching. Where these children are taught, there is no distraction. No voice is allowed to pass by an individual. That these children can focus on instruction.

On the treatment and rehabilitation of these children around the world including in Pakistan, thousands of semi-physicians, paramedics, doctors, psychologists, speech therapists, special educationists, occupational therapists and many without any degree have learned only by working with experts. Individuals are wasting parents and child's time as well as their money. They are deceiving the parents that the parents do not know anything. Taking information from the net and drawing conclusions is not for everyone. Only experts in this field can form a final opinion. A common man cannot learn everything from net. Only one can know everything. It will take a lot of time if you even know.

What is happiness after all in this?

If there are some defects in these children, then God must have kept some qualities as well? Does the intellect believe this? By finding the positive areas and working on them, extraordinary things can be taken from these children.
So here are some positive areas of these kids:

  • Positive thinking
  • Very powerful and wonderful memory
  • Overly sincere
  • Superior focusing quality
  • Ability to observe closely
  • Hugging, kissing, loving people
  • Starting to read too young Hyperlexia
  • Ability to learn from image objects
  • Logical thinking Science, mathematics, medicine, engineering subjects called intelligence and intelligence
  • Proficiency in technical and logical subjects
  • Oceans of creativity would be contained in these children
  • These children were very responsible
It can happen then. If the focus is on education and training of these children apart from the treatment. Qualified experts are few and far between, but they do exist. You have to earn some extra money for these kids. You will hire an expert teacher who will come and teach you at home. He will not take less than twenty thousand for one to one and a half hour daily for a month. And this process can continue from four to five years to ten years. Two to three people at a time, including psychologists and occupational therapists, take sessions as needed.

Find a teacher who can give time after school from every division of Pakistan and every district Tehsil Town Special Education Center of Punjab. Whether you are the mother of the child or the father, take the training together. Most of the teachers of successful autistic children around the world were their parents. These children slap the teacher on the face. They spit. Mills grind. They drop water on top and give push etc. Why does the teacher put up with all this? That he will get his compensation. There will not be a qualified teacher in five to ten thousand to bear all this. Are you not interested in money? You ask the teacher to train you too. If you can't, earn more money and train your child regularly. Otherwise, the child will be the source of people's jokes in the streets. Or he will spend his days lying in a corner of the house. Or your whole life will be in trouble due to his and your lack of training.

These children can become a part of the education system after early intervention and do up to Ph.D. There are many autistic Ph.D. Here are some of the best job occupations for them. In which they can show their superpowers. And of course, all the pains you have endured and the capital spent will pay you back. If you make them any worthy.

Animal sciences such as zoology or training animals for a task (there are autistic people around the world who specialize in training and training dogs of all breeds)

No one can be a researcher like him, Art and Design (Graphic Designing) Painting (It is said that Sadeqin, Ismail Gulji and Jameel Naqsh Sahib, the three world-renowned painters of the country were also autistic) These people's paintings sell in crores today. Jameel Naqsh's daughter was telling that her father left the house only a few times in his entire life. Once they got married, then when their wife died, for the funeral. The third time was when he had to make a passport and the fourth time was when he went to London. In the year 2019, Jameel Naqsh Sahib fell in love with Allah in London. Today the world knows his work. He did not meet anyone and was lost in his work.

Manufacturing (of anything) created information technology like software and mobile apps. Checking for software bugs (There is an IT company in the US that fixes major software bugs for firms. All of their employees have Asperger's syndrome. It's a mild form of autism).

They can do any type of engineering job...

These children can become scientists (because even scientists don't talk to anyone, just get lost in their experiments. Three great scientists, Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, and Henry Cavendish (discoverer of hydrogen) were also autistic.
In journalism, these people are excellent columnists that writing is done by researching. Researching is over on them
Mechanics of any machine can be excellent. John Deere, the famous American company that manufactures machines, has a top mechanic who is autistic.

The world's top lawyers may have autistic people on their paralegal staffs who conduct research in a case study.
In space sciences cosmology there is no one better than him. There are many autistic people at NASA.

The by-default and by-birth kings of all these fields are autistic people. All these fields demand extreme intelligence and logical thinking. Demands extreme focus and dedication. Antisocial people are always creative. And they have this innate quality that they don't have to talk to anyone, just do what happens. Just be engrossed in your own world.

There is a need to accept these children by adopting the social model instead of the medical model of disability. And their education and training should be properly managed.

You can ask any question here in this regard, I will reply surely.
